1509 – King Henry VIII marries wife #1, Catharina of Aragon. She was so great, he got 5 more–which then resulted in much less closet space for him. Girls love their gowns!

1815: The Congress of Vienna, called to remake Europe after the fall of Napolean, closes. Members celebrated by waltzing and eating those long cookies and little sausages served in tin cans. Weird.

1867: Emperer Francis I of Austria is crowned King of Hungary following the ‘Ausgleich’. Looks like he already had quite a crown on his head. Did NOT do well on Match.com.

History Schmistory, June 8: Louis Luie, Oh Baby!

979 Louis V de Luie, was crowned King of France. A little under 1000 years later, the Kingsmen went on to write a song with his name in it! I wonder if he gets Royalties?

1340 – Count Willem IV of Holland founded the “Gateway to Europe” also know as the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. It has the largest port in all of Europe–whatcha think a’boat that?
